ARTIST TALK: STELLA KAPEZANOU X DIONISIS CHRISTOFILOGIANNIS
On emerald poison, visual seduction, Manet, Instagram, and the DRAGONS on the horizon
Athens | May 2025

In this dynamic dialogue between Stella Kapezanou and Dionisis Christofilogiannis, painting becomes a stage for contradiction and tension—where beauty is both bait and weapon, and the image refuses to settle into comfort. At the center of the conversation are Kapezanou’s Emerald Paintings, a series immersed in a single, potent hue: green as poison, glamour, envy, and desire. Her subjects—enigmatic, self-aware women—pose with a glossy defiance, performing not submission but control. What seduces also unsettles. What glows may rot.

Kapezanou and Christofilogiannis examine the collapsing boundaries between intimacy and performance, art and algorithm, Manet’s Olympia and the filtered Instagram gaze. Their talk reveals how both artists navigate a world oversaturated with images by slowing down the encounter, by holding space for ambiguity, by resisting the need to be explained.

This is an exhibition as conversation, and a conversation as confrontation. A space where symbols hum with emotional static, where aesthetic beauty is charged with discomfort, and where painting still holds the power to seduce, disturb, and burn. Kapezanou’s solo show at Skoufa Gallery—rife with dragons, ravens, black cats, and sovereign women—promises myth, instinct, and exquisite danger.

The image no longer asks to be understood. It asks to be felt, misread, and remembered wrong.
